The UK government has clarified the position for EU nationals in the UK and has proposed in its recent White Paper a new system for all EEA and non EEA nationals coming to the UK after the proposed transition period, i.e. from 1 January 2021. In this webinar with Lexology, Fox Williams immigration and employment experts will consider what businesses and individuals should do now to prepare for the new rules, explaining and bearing in mind the changes that have been introduced for those already in the UK and the changes which are due to come into force in the coming months.

With freedom of movement set to end, EU nationals will be obliged to make specific applications to secure their right to be in the United Kingdom and to continue to work here. These new requirements will be imposed regardless of the outcome of the Brexit negotiations. Non-EU national family members of EU nationals will also be affected. All employers should therefore be up to speed with the actions to take now and in the short-term future, and need to understand the potentially costly consequences of failing to take action. In some cases, this could mean the business-critical loss of key employees.

Non-EU nationals will likewise be subject to amended immigration rules once they come into force, likely to be from January 2021 – though employers need to start forward thinking now and ensuring they are adequately prepared . This webinar will also address these provisions, highlighting the requirements that UK employers must meet as sponsors and how the changes may affect employers and employees in the United Kingdom.

Sacha Schoenfeld, head of Fox Williams’ immigration practice, and Jane Mann, head of Fox Williams’ employment law team, will be delivering the presentation.

Sacha said, “Many employers we speak to are very concerned about the rapidly changing immigration landscape and the steps to take now. In this webinar we will take a practical view of the key issues, putting you in an informed position for your business immigration strategy and actions.”
